Any parent of little ones with boundless energy would have definitely asked this question at some point; “is there something we can do this weekend that the whole family will enjoy?”.
On top of that, you’ve got to navigate through the hectic demands of work, juggle through your little ones’ schedules and different interests, and wrestle your way through Kuala Lumpur and Selangor’s infamous traffic. Through that, your little ones will definitely chime in with the common “I’m bored!”.
It’s no surprise if coming up with activities that get everyone in the family excited sounds like a ridiculous task with everything on your plate. Yet here we are.

So clear your calendars and give your kids’ babysitter a day off, because we’re going to help you break free from your usual boring weekend routines!
Top 13 Fun Family Activities In Kuala Lumpur & Selangor To Experience With Your Little Ones During The Weekends & Public Holidays

1. Zip Through The Forest With SKYTREX Adventure
I’m willing to bet that your little ones would have declared out loud that they want to be a ninja warrior at some point, and maybe even yourself when you were younger. The SKYTREX Adventure is an exhilarating aerial obstacle course nestled deep among forest canopies where families can tackle rope bridges, suspended walkways, and ziplines together.
This particular activity is well-loved by young children thanks to the crazy rush of adrenaline they get from gliding through the trees while parents can take a breather from playing the supervisory role and join in on the fun as it all takes place under careful supervision in a safe, structured environment.
It’s definitely one of the best family activities if you’re looking to encourage your kids to enjoy fresh air and physical activity away from the screens. Not to mention that it also helps them build confidence from a young age as they conquer obstacles and potential fears together with you!

Bonus Tip: Since this activity takes place deep in the woods, I highly recommend packing lunch ahead of time in your OiYO Lunch Stacker and OiYO Lunch Bag as you and your little ones are definitely going to get hungry amidst the activities!

2. Discover New Board Games Together At A Board Game Cafe
Board games are a classic, but these days some of them cost a lot to own considering that there’s a high chance your little ones may grow out or get bored of them. So why not bring them to a board game cafe like the kid-friendly Arcobaleno Hobby Centre?
Families can dive into a variety of games that cater to different ages and preferences, be it an easy match-the-cards game like Exploding Kittens or something a little more extensive like the full Monopoly board game.
Playing board games is a fun way to spend time with your little ones as they delight in exploring new ways to have fun, hone their problem-solving skills, and build creativity by exploring the different worlds offered by different board games. It’s one of those rare activities where everyone benefits from fun discussions, shared laughter, and the joy of working together.

3. Embark On A Virtual Reality (VR) Adventure
Why book plane tickets when you can transport your entire family to different worlds with extraordinary adventures that are so much fun for less? Virtual reality gaming is on the rise and with great reason. Simply by wearing a special headset, one is able to embark on various journeys, take part in interactive games, and experience mind-bending visuals that are just out of this world.
It’s one of Malaysia’s most popular ways for families to enjoy thrilling fun since there are games for players of all ages. Imagine defending a snowy fortress together from cute mushrooms and giants as you traverse on a viking’s wagon, escaping a prison with a zombie outbreak, or racing one another on a supercar of your choice.
Some of the top places to enjoy VR gaming in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor include VAR LIVE MY at MyTown Shopping Centre and Hologate VR at Berjaya Times Square. So carve out a weekend, head on over and immerse your entire family on an adventure they will definitely remember (plus it’s all comfortably air-conditioned!).

4. Beat The Heat With Splashing Fun At A Water Theme Park
We are all no strangers to Malaysia’s tropical heat, which honestly gets pretty unbearable sometimes. But we can’t exactly stay holed up at home away from the sun for the entire weekend now, can we? (Please say no)
Which is why water theme parks like Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and SplashMania at Gamuda Cove are genuinely lifesavers for those of us who want our families to get their regular dose of sunshine away from the house. These water parks offer wave pools, lazy rivers, and exhilarating water slides in various sizes and forms to delight families of all ages. While the little ones cool off in the splash zone’s jungle gym, older family members can tackle more thrilling rides together.
While Sunway Lagoon is a long-time staple for locals, I highly recommend trying out SplashMania if you haven’t yet. That said, if you’re looking for more variety, Sunway Lagoon is still the better bet since the theme park is home to 7 different theme park attractions such as the WildLife Adventure Park, Amusement Park, Scream Park, X Park, and more!

5. Get Creative By Art Jamming With Your Little Ones
What if I were to tell you that you don’t need to be artistically talented to enjoy art jamming? Whether artistic or not, the simple act of enjoying any creative activity has long been proven to relax the senses while refreshing one’s creativity.
Kids get to unleash their inner creativity as they paint freely on canvas, while parents get to join in on the fun with their own creations or enjoy the exact same process together with their little ones. It’s one of the best ways for children to express themselves, build confidence, and develop fine motor skills while enjoying the process of making their very own artistic creation.
At the same time, parents can enjoy quality bonding time away from screens and daily routines for a truly relaxing experience. And the best part? Everyone leaves the art studio with their own masterpieces at the end of the day (and maybe a bit of paint on their sleeves!). One of my favourite places to do this is at the Art & Bonding Studio in Sri Hartamas, so make a booking for the upcoming weekend and give it a try with your little ones. ;)

6. Enjoy A Relaxing, Urban-Style Sunny Family Picnic
There are families who enjoy the wilderness of the great outdoors, and there are families who prefer urban parks. If you and your family members are of the latter category, I’ve got just the right spots for you to enjoy a lovely picnic together.
Two of my top favourite places to enjoy an urban picnic are the famous KLCC Park and the TRX City Park. True, they are both popular tourist attractions and tourist destinations, but both places offer some of the best views of lush greenery and sweeping panoramic city views and mini water play areas for little ones to indulge in some splashing fun under the sun. But if you prefer sweeping panoramic views, I’d say the TRX City Park is the superior out of the two.

That said, both places allow little ones to safely explore open spaces, splash away, and enjoy simple outdoor games together, while you and your partner can unwind and recharge in nature. Dining options are aplenty here, but I would recommend packing a delicious homemade lunch in your OiYO Lunch Stacker to really keep the experience wholesome through and through.

7. Cool Off While Learning A New Skill: Ice Skating
Looking for a refreshing escape from Malaysia’s heat that doesn’t involve getting soaked? Then you’ll want to bring the family to try out ice skating. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it may first look!
Ice skating is actually a pretty fun activity that lets families glide on ice together, which in turn builds confidence and coordination. These days there are even options for beginners (both kids and adults) to utilise support structures in the form of cute seals, penguins, or dolphins which they can hold onto to stay upright instead of falling on the ice.
Young kids can delight in mastering simple moves with the support structures or the railings, while parents can either rediscover the thrill of skating or learn it alongside their little ones. It’s ultimately a fun, shared challenge that involves a lot of patience, a lot of giggles, and the joy of learning a new skill together!

8. Enter The World Of Science At The Petrosains Discovery Centre
Education meets interactive fun at the Petrosains Discovery Centre in the Suria KLCC Mall. This long-standing science centre brings science to life through interactive exhibits, hands-on experiments, and larger-than-life displays that both young and old can enjoy.
Be prepared to see your little ones go “oooh!” and “ahhh!” as they embark on the interactive journey starting with the famous Dark Ride, followed by life-sized displays of prehistoric creatures, safely feel the texture of unrefined petroleum, interact with any ongoing science experiment, press countless buttons that start fun simulations like the one on earthquakes, and more!
It’s one of the most fun places that truly brings out a sense of wonder in both kids and adults even though it may be something the latter has once learned long ago. Even more so if your little ones aren’t fond of sitting still during learning sessions as this is essentially a day of learning disguised as fun. ;)

9. Journey Underwater At Aquaria KLCC
A trip to Aquaria KLCC is just the right thing to do after watching childhood favourites like the Little Mermaid or Moana with your little ones! Kuala Lumpur’s Aquaria just below the iconic Petronas Twin Towers features a captivating marine world where visitors traverse through an expansive glass tunnel as majestic rays and sharks swim overhead.
Marvel with your little ones as they spot various species of colourful fish, check out interactive touch pools, and join in on feeding sessions, or take part in discovering fun facts about ocean life.
These shared awe-inspiring moments are those that spark curiosity while fostering environmental awareness in children, and what’s a better time to introduce it to them than now?

10. Pet Cute Animals At Farm In The City
If your little ones have always wanted to get up and close to wildlife and you’re a wildlife lover yourself, bring them to Farm in the City for a truly amazing experience they won’t forget. This urban farm provides a hands-on encounter with friendly animals like rabbits, tortoises, ponies, and birds.

Visitors can take part in feeding sessions, up-close interactions, experience the old school activity of longkang fishing, and even join in on pony rides! It’s a fun outing experience that nurtures empathy and respect for living creatures in a safe environment for both little ones and the resident wildlife.
Parents particularly favour this family activity because of its safe, educational setting that also allows the rare opportunity for kids to get in direct contact with wildlife, which in turn instills a sense of responsibility.

11. Be A Family Of Ninja Warriors At District 21 In IOI City Mall Putrajaya
If being a ninja outdoors is not your family’s cup of tea, don’t worry. There’s always IOI City Mall Putrajaya’s District 21 and their array of floating obstacle courses, thrill rides, and extreme attractions!
This indoor adventure park is brimming with ninja-style challenges like rope courses, a whole field of giant trampolines, climbing walls, and twisting slides that will get any participant all fired up, whether children or adults.
District 21 also showcases a futuristic, dystopian themed environment that kids tend to adore, making it the all-round perfect place for families who enjoy getting active with a touch (or more) of adrenaline.

12. Get Up Close To Birds At The KL Bird Park
Birds are one of the most challenging wildlife species for little ones to get close to. Not just little ones but adults as well. The slightest sound and hint of movement is enough to send them fluttering away in a hurry.
That’s why the KL Bird Park is an exciting opportunity for families to get up close to birds like never before. This sprawling free-flight aviary is teeming with countless colourful feathered species from peacocks to hornbills and your common brown sparrows.
Fun family activities that can be enjoyed here include taking part in the scheduled feeding sessions, close up interactions with friendly birds like the resident parrots, and of course, photo-taking sessions with these adorable birds. That said, I highly encourage wearing hats while you’re there because it IS a bird park…and you know how the world is their toilet.

13. Craft Pewter Together @ The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre
The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre is one of the Klang Valley’s most underrated attractions simply because not many speak of it. It offers interactive workshops where families can explore pewter crafting together, walk through exhibits of the brand’s creations over the decades, and gain exciting insights into pewter crafting.
Kids and parents will be guided by skilled artisans as they learn to hammer, shape, and polish pewter into their very own memorable keepsakes through either the School of Hard Knocks or the Foundry. It’s one of the most exciting family activities in town for families of all ages; little ones will enjoy the hands-on element of tapping away with mallets while parents can do the same AND enjoy witnessing their kids’ creativity blossom in a safe, structured environment.
Not forgetting the exciting opportunity for a lovely family photo by the world’s largest pewter tankard at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre’s entrance! Just remember to book your workshop visit ahead of time especially during the school holidays as it tends to be hugely popular during those periods!
